Bollywood is going Digital

The world is getting digitalized, so the bollywood film industry too. Bollywood film industry is joining hands with telecom operators for its services and its business growth, and recently bollywood has started is marketing campaign through the telecom operator.  Excel entertainment has recently tied up with the Aircel to push upcoming film “Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara” film’s trailer to the Aircel’s 55 million customers for free. This is a first and its kind of marketing campaign in India done by bollywood industry.

Apart from Tie-up with Aircel, production house is coming up with the social page on Facebook, which will have trailers and other relevant information on its page. They will target FB users with sharing the post with them online.

Mobile marketing is a segment of telecom value added services and Hollywood has already benefited from it.  Indian telecom industry has already crossed 800 mn subscriber bases recently and mobile marketing makes significant meaning in Indian film industry too.

With more than half of India’s 47 million online populations active on social networking sites, Facebook has more than 25 million users and Orkut has more than 14 million users. So these social sites are becoming a great tool for marketing and it is the right opportunity for bollywood to use this tool.

So following the similar footsteps of Hollywood, Bollywood would like to promote its film through operator services and VAS services. Sooner with the help of 3G and IPTV, Bollywood will have a different reach and value in the market.

First quarter(Q1-2011) business report on Bollywood films

It was the first quarter of Indian business industry which did not see much uprising in first quarter. For Telecom it was the leak of Radia tape and other corruption charges in 2G spectrum distribution, for finance it was European economic downturn along with Japan disaster and in the film-industry it was World-cup which was promising more entertainment than film industry since India was favorite to win.

But still it was few filmmakers who dared to release their films and did well in their business. Though they missed the contribution of Tear 2 and Tear 3 cities but still did reasonable well in Metros.

These are couple of films which has done some business:-
No one killed Jessica’s budget was 9 crore rupees and it’s gross revenue stood up to 35  crore rupees. Patiala house and Tanu Weds Manu’s budget was 21 crore and 17.5 crore rupees respectively and their gross was 32 crore and 39 crore rupees. Other films like Dhobi ghat, Dil to Bachha hai Ji, Ye saali jindagi and 7 khoon maaf even casted good actors and directed by one of the most respected filmmakers of industry but could not do much profit. Still were able to manage with no profit loss. For rest first quarter was disaster and film business was in huge loss.

3G: Another Business opportunity for Bollywood

Whenever it comes to the entertainment using mobile, it is only Bollywood which rules in the heart of Indians.

Since in 2G technology entertainment using mobile was limited, Bollywood could only cash with its music and songs. But as 3G is getting hotter by the day in India, Bollywood sees another great opportunity of business with telecom operators.

Telecom operators are already categorised it's value added services from Bollywood to m-VAS, they are looking for high returns from m-VAS. With the launch of 3G and IPTV, users will be able to watch online Videos, movies on its mobile from anywhere in the country. This will help content providers sell their content on mobiles; it will also help operators to generate high data traffic as well as high penetration in India.

According to a report, the mobile entertainment industry in India will be worth $4.9bn in 2015, up from $1.2bn in 2009, growing at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 26%.

Another report reveals that the Mobile VAS industry is expected to touch Rs 100,000 crore by 2020 from Rs 15,000 Crore now with the launch of 3G, Mobile Broadband Services & Rural VAS fuelling this growth, content developers are burning the midnight oil to come up with better and newer concepts and services.

Recently Shemaroo Acquired Mobile Rights Of Bigg Toss a TV reality show and was exclusively offered to TATA Docomo’s 3G subscribers. Indiatimes 58888 Acquired World Wide Exclusive Mobile & Internet Rights of Sarthak Music.

Production houses like JMD Telefilms have also jumped into MVAS Industry. Whereas online content distributors like 1takemedia are coming up with innovative business models. According to 1takemedia, they will distribute the content online on mobile and will share the revenue with producers based on a particular business model.

Some of the production houses also started converting their content to mobile compatible and making mobile content library with reducing data size.

With the launch of cheaper Smartphones, the reach of Bollywood content will be high between the users and will create a win- win situation to everyone right from telecom operators, content distributers, and film producers to end consumers.

Bollywood Bosses are back in Business despite IPL Cricket

Overdose is also not good for health and that's what happened when people got fed-up with too much of Cricket. First two months of Cricket world cup and then IPL T20.

Initially filmmakers and Producers were worried about their film release and during world cup only few could dare to release but could not make a huge success. But this was the time when cricket got overloaded.

And last two weeks have been great for Bollywood cinema with couple of releases like Shor In The City`, `Chalo Dilli`, `Naughty @40`, `I Am` and `Men Will Be Men'. Almost all films are doing well on box office and I think critics also supported the business with good ratings. People were seen in cinemas and its good news for Bollywood again.

According to some analyst and Media reports, Dum Maaro Dum has done a business of around US$328,000 and Thank you also got its share with US$ 452,000.Chalo Dilli has collected money of around 30 million in opening weekend and Shor in the city has collected around 1.75 Crore Indian rupees.

So this is a great news for Bollywood. More business to come.
